Descriptive Essay: Tips on Writing

Descriptive essays are the kinds of papers that aim to describe something. If you are assigned to write a descriptive essay, you may use one of the possible ways to do it: either to use vivid and fresh language, or examples, or take something ordinary and compare it with something extraordinary. Still, the most important thing is to make your descriptive essay interesting for your reader.

Do you need any pieces of advice on your descriptive essay writing? The tips below can serve as good guidelines on descriptive essay writing:

  • Strive to make it as interesting as possible. How to do it? Well, you may emphasize the thing that makes it unusual and extraordinary. Just focus the reader’s attention on this thing by expressing it in a vivid language or marking it with the bold type or italics. Pick something that is definitely specific;
  • Provide specific descriptive details in order to create a dominant impression on the reader. Remember that how you will treat your subject is how the reader will react to your subject. So, if, for example, you are describing a person, watch this person, present the manner of holding his/her head and the way he/she pronounces the words;
  • Make your paper perfectly organized. The introduction of your essay should work from the general to specific. It should end in a thesis statement of your essay. The ending part of your essay should conclude all you have said. Try your best to impress your reader with a conclusion.
